Police Shoot At Man Who Points Crossbow At Them: Authorities

The 25-year-old Antioch man was not hit by the gunfire, authorities said.

ANTIOCH, IL β€” No one was injured when an officer opened fire after a man β€” who led police on a high-speed chase Sunday night in Antioch β€” pointed a high-powered crossbow at authorities.

The incident was first reported at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday when authorities learned that a police pursuit, which began in Waukegan, was headed toward Antioch, according to a news release from the Antioch Police Department.

The man leading the pursuit, a 25-year-old from Antioch, was headed west on North Avenue at a high rate of speed and eventually parked at the Antioch Manor apartments, which are located in the 400 block of Donin Drive. When he arrived, he got out of his vehicle with his high-powered crossbow in hand and pointed the weapon at police several times before he went into a nearby apartment building.

Authorities entered the apartment building and the man again pointed his weapon at police when an officer from Waukegan fired a single round at the man, according to the news release.

The bullets did not strike the man, and he was not injured. He did then surrender and was taken into custody, police said.

He was taken to an area hospital, and authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
