Police Rescue Several People After Man Chases Them With Knife: Police

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Saturday night for assaulting multiple people with a knife, police said.

Deputies were called to the home in the 35800 block of North Hillside Avenue of unincorporated Round Lake for a report of man inside who was assaulting others. When deputies arrived, one of the victims jumped from a second-story window to escape the assault.

The man was uninjured in his fall, according to a news release.

Deputies forced their way through the front door, and once inside found several victims running from the accused attacker, Juan A. Carranco-Salinas, 29.

Deputies found Carranco-Salinas at the top of a stairway, police said. He was armed with a knife, which had an approximate 9-inch blade. Deputies gave Carranco-Salinas commands to drop the knife, which he eventually did.

But he then approached a locked bedroom door, which contained several frightened victims. Carranco-Salinas tried to get into the bedroom door, and deputies then used a Taser to subdue Carranco-Salinas and take him into custody.

Police later learned Carranco-Salinas became made when a woman in the home rejected his sexual advances. He offered her money for sexual favors, but when she refused, he became violent, police said.

Others in the home attempted to restrain him but were unsuccessful. Carranco-Salinas then grabbed a kitchen knife and began chasing people inside the residence, police said.

No one was stabbed or injured, according to the news reels.e

Carranco-Salinas has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and six counts of domestic battery.
