The sheriff's office reported the crash took place Monday afternoon, Sept. 9 in the intersection of Russell Road and Kenosha Road.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to Russell Road and Kenosha Road in unincorporated Zion at 12:15 p.m. Monday for a traffic crash that sent one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries . According to a release from the sheriff's office, deputies got to the crash site and found that a box truck collided with a minivan. The sheriff's office said the driver of the van had to be extricated.

According to the release, early investigation shows a 69-year-old man from Winthrop Harbor was driving a 1997 Ford Box Truck eastbound on Russell Road, and an 89-year-old woman from Beach Park was headed northbound on Kenosha Road. While the truck traveled eastbound through the intersection, the driver of the van continued northbound, and the front of the truck hit the Dodge's driver side, according to the sheriff's department.

The sheriff's office said Kenosha Road is controlled by a stop sign for northbound and southbound traffic at the intersection, but there is no traffic control device for eastbound and westbound Russell Road.
