Suspect Steals $50,000 Worth Of Jewelry From Gurnee Store: Police

Police are searching for the suspect who they said took the merchandise and ran from the store during a consultation with a sales associate.

GURNEE, IL — Authorities are investigating after a suspect stole $50,000 worth of jewelry Monday morning from a business in the 6500 block of Grand Avenue, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department. Officers were called at 10:55 a.m. to a reported retail theft at that address, where they were told a man had entered the store and requested to see jewelry from the display, the release said. While meeting with a sales associate, the suspect took the merchandise and ran from the store, according to police, who added that the suspect didn't make any threats and there were no signs of a weapon.

Responding officers set up a perimeter in the area and used a K9 from the Lake County Sheriff's office to help with tracking the suspect, according to the news release.

Police said it was determined the suspect left in a car, and is described as a black man who at the time was wearing a tan hat, tan Carhartt jacket, blue jeans and tan shoes. He is missing a front upper left tooth, police added.
