GURNEE, IL — With Fright Fest opening soon, Six Flags Great America is debuting a new policy that will require all guests 15 years old and younger to be accompanied by a chaperone, Six Flags officials said.

The new policy will go into effect starting on Sept. 14, according to Six Flags officials.

"Over the past years, there have been increasing incidents of unruly and inappropriate behavior across our industry and at other major entertainment venues," the new policy reads. "We are committed to keeping Six Flags Great America a place where thrill-seekers of all ages can come together to enjoy a one-of-a-kind park full of fun experiences."

As part of the new rules, all guests ages 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is 21 years old or older in order to be admitted to, or remain in, the park during Fright Fest. The policy will take effect by 5 p.m. and will continue until the park closes.

The chaperone must present a valid government-issued photo identification with date of birth at ticket entry and one chaperone may accompany no more than ten guests ages 15 years old or younger per day, according to the park policy.

In addition, the chaperone must stay with their party and remain inside the park during their visit, according to the updates policy. They must also be available by phone throughout their visit.

Guests 16 years old or older may be asked to present a valid government-issued photo ID with date of birth at entry to verify their age. If they are unable to verify proof of age, guests may be denied entry into the park, according to Six Flags officials.

If park officials do find someone inside the park who is 15 years old or younger, and who not accompanied by a chaperone, they may be removed from the park. This chaperone requirement applies to all Six Flags Great America one-day ticket holders, season [ass holders and members.

"We believe these changes will help ensure that Six Flags Great America continues to have a positive atmosphere where thrill-seekers can gather for a day of safe, fun and thrilling experiences," according to the park policy.

In recent years, fight and other unruly behavior have been reported at Six Flags. Last year, police were called to the park when a fight broke out in the parking lot. Six teens were arrested during the incident and four officers were injured, police said.

In 2021, a large fight was also reported at the park. No one was injured in that incident.
