What You Need To Know About Early Voting In Lake County

Starting on Thursday, early voting will open at one location in Lake County: in the main lobby of the the Lake County courthouse.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — We have more than a month until primary Election Day, but early voting will get underway Thursday, Feb. 8, in Lake, McHenry, Dupage and Kane counties.

Voters will get to pick their choices in presidential, congressional and state legislative races ahead of this year's November general election. They will also get to weigh in on county board races and sound off on referenda.

So, what do you need to know if you would like to cast your ballot early this election?

Starting on Thursday, early voting will open at one location in Lake County: in the main lobby of the the Lake County courthouse, 18 N. County Street in Waukegan. This location will be open for early voting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday through March 1.

Starting on March 4, early voting will open up countywide, with more locations available to cast your ballot up until the March 19 primary election. You can use any early voting site regardless of where you live and hours and dates vary at the different locations. Some sites offer extended weekend and evening hours.

Locally, residents can head to Gurnee Village Hall and the Avon Township Office to vote starting in March, and the full list of early voting locations can be found here.

Early voting ends on March 18, which is the day before primary Election Day.

Here are some other things to know if you do decide to cast your ballot early:

  • No identification is required for voters correctly registered with current name and address
  • Your identity is verified by matching your application signature with the signature on your voter registration record
  • Every site is ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant and handicap accessible
  • Grace Registration is available for eligible unregistered residents at any early voting site
