Caretakers, Nurses Blamed For Thefts Of Valuables From Homes: Blotter
A trio faces felony charges after police were called to a theft in progress at a local gas station: Highland Park Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The information below comes from Highland Park and Highwood police and Lake County courts as a record of those arrested by police. Being arrested does not mean a person is guilty of the charged offense. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state are often dropped or reduced. Everyone named below is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. INCIDENTS
STOLEN BIKES
Someone stole two mountain bikes valued at about $1,400 combined from a home in the 800 block of Yale Lane at some point between March 15 and March 17.
STOLEN RUG
On March 20, police were told about the theft of a rug that was found to be missing during a delivery in the 1200 block of Lincoln Avenue. Police were unsure if the theft occurred in Highland Park or another jurisdiction.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 1100 block of Princeton Avenue sometime prior to 8:30 a.m. March 21, but nothing was reported stolen from inside.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a pizza delivery driver's car after he left it running while going into a restaurant in the 600 block of Central Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. on March 22. The car was later found unoccupied by Winnetka police on March 24.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 100 block of Vine Avenue after damaging its windows and stole numerous items while the homeowner was out of town at some point prior to the morning of March 27.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 700 block of Central Avenue reported on March 29 that two of their tires had been punctured during the night. A neighbor also had a punctured tire, police learned.
LOCKER THEFTS
Someone stole a key fob out of a locked locker at LA Fitness, 115 Skokie Valley Road. That key was then used to get into a car and steal a wallet from inside at some point prior to 10:30 a.m. on March 30. Later that day, police learned that someone else's car keys and wallet had been stolen from a locked locker at the LA Fitness. A credit card that was in the wallet was later used in another town to make about $500 worth of purchases.
STOLEN CARD
A resident reported an acquaintance took their debit card in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road and used it for an unauthorized purchase of less than $5.
STOLEN HEADPHONES
An employee of Gravity Autos, 2772 Skokie Valley Road, reported on the afternoon of April 1 that someone had stolen their wireless headphones while at work.
PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1600 block of McGovern Street reported on April 3 that someone had stolen a package valued at about $160 that had been delivered to their front door by an online retailer.
SHOPLIFTING
- Two unidentified female shoplifters stole a cart full of merchandise from the Sunset Foods, 1812 Green Bay Road, at some point prior to 10 a.m. on March 26 for an unknown loss.
- An unidentified young thief grabbed a bag out food that was being handed to a customer at the McDonald's drive-thru, 1988 First Street, prior to 10 p.m. on March 28.
CARETAKER THEFT
- About $25,000 worth of valuables was reported missing from a home in the 1200 block of Cavell Avenue on March 27 following regular visits from home health nurses.
- On April 6, a resident in the 2000 block of St Johns Avenue reported about $22,000 worth of jewelry had gone missing following visits in November 2023 from four caretakers.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 36-year-old Vernon Hills woman was arrested on March 21 and charged with attempted disorderly conduct in connection with a report of an assault at Highland Park Hospital, 777 Park Ave. W.
Juan Romero, 27, with no known address, Josthin Noel Landaeta Perez, 23, of Jamaica, New York, and Oswaldo S. Arriechi Hernandez, 20, of Chicago, were arrested on March 21 and charged with felony retail theft after police were called to the Shell gas station at 10 Skokie Valley Road for a report of shoplifting in progress.
A 67-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 8 a.m. on March 30 and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a vehicle damage accident following a traffic crash at Green Bay Road and Onwentsia Avenue. He was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper lane usage.
A 21-year-old Round Lake Beach man was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on March 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
A 41-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 7:15 a.m. on April 2 and charged with misdemeanor battery following a report of a dispute in the 3400 block of Summit Avenue, where he lives.
