City Council Split on Proposed Dunkin Donuts Drive-Thru

The council voted 3-3 on the proposal for Green Bay Road and Second Street.

The Highland Park City Council split 3-3 on a vote this week on whether to allow a drive-thru Dunkin’ Donuts in a shopping center at Green Bay Road and Second Street, according to an article in the Highland Park News. The proposal could be brought back when the full seven council members are present.

In addition to the eatery, the developer wants to build a 6,000-square-foot retail building with space for several businesses, the article reports. The property in question is a triangular piece between Green Bay, Second and Elm Place. Consultants working for the city identified that area as a good spot for a mixed-use residential development.

The opposing council members cited concerns about traffic backing up onto the roads during the morning rush hour, the News article says.
