Highwood Obituary: Eugene Charles Vogds, 89
He worked for the Park District of Highland Park and was a WWII and Korean War veteran. A service will be held Wednesday.

Eugene Charles Vogds, 89, of Highwood, Illinois, passed away October 12, 2014.
He was born in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin on February 13, 1925, the youngest of six children to Christina and Leo Vogds. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War, Eugene also served as Chaplain’s Assistant during his time in the United States Army. These life changing experiences resulted in a life-long interest in military history.

A hard worker who took pride in a job well done, Eugene worked as a groundskeeper for a private estate in Lake Forest and the Park District of Highland Park. He was a humble, down to earth, honest, sensitive, and loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He loved working outdoors and enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards, dancing the Jitterbug with his wife, and time spent with his family. An extremely empathetic and compassionate man, he instilled these values in his children and grandchildren who will continue to pass them on to future generations.

Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Vera, parents, and brothers Walter, Wallace, Norman, and Harvey. He is survived by his sister Harriett Gable, daughter Mary (Stephen) Fiore, son Eugene Jr. (Deborah) Vogds, grandchildren Sara (Michael) McCartin, Katharine Fiore, Olivia Vogds, and Jacob Vogds.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
A servcie will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, IL 60035, United States
