Home Burglar Caught In The Act; Stolen Items Returned: Blotter
A contactor dispute, an unauthorized wire transfer and a burglary charge are included in this week's Highland Park police blotter.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The information below comes from Highland Park and Highwood police and Lake County courts as a record of those arrested by police. Being arrested does not mean a person is guilty of the charged offense. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state are often dropped or reduced. Everyone named below is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Updated information about the following cases may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts.
INCIDENTS
THEFTS
- On Dec. 30, police were told that a former employee of the Midas, 60 Skokie Valley Road, had tried to get back their personal tools. The employer told police they were unable to locate the tools and the employee had not worked there for several months.
- Police got a report of a theft from Lab Sixty One at 1847 Second Street around 3 p.m. on Dec. 30. Police were told that they had contractors close up their store once they were done working. When leaving, the contractor took their belongings as well as nail polish, sandals, cleaners, UV lamps, desk lamps and other things. Police reported the contractors admitted to taking the items but said the products belonged to them.
- An employee of the Walgreens at 655 Elm Place reported that someone came into the store and stole an unspecified amount skin care items on or before 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.
- On Jan. 12, police got a report of a theft from the 1900 block of Second Street, where a resident told them they had given there phone to someone to complete a money wire transfer. When the person gave the phone back, it turned out they had sent money to an unknown person for a different amount.
TRESPASSING
On Jan. 9, police were told someone was walking their dog on school property in the 1900 block of Stratford Road.

SHOPLIFTING
Around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, police got a call about shoplifting from the Target at 2099 Skokie Valley Road. Staff reported that someone had stolen some Pokemon cards of unspecified value.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Eric C. Martinez, 18, of the 300 block of Betty Street, Park City, was arrested around 4 p.m. on Dec. 29 and charged with felony theft for allegedly trying to return a stolen acoustic guitar valued at $749 to the Guitar Center at 143 Skokie Valley Road.

Angelo Jackson, 39, of the 10600 block of Oak Avenue, Chicago Ridge, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 after police went to his house to serve a warrant for a felony offense.
Devin A. Contreras, 27, of the 1900 block of Wesley Avenue, Evanston, was arrested on Jan. 11 and charged with trespassing at the Walgreens, 632 Roger Williams Ave., after police were told he had been banned from the store a week earlier. In another incident, he was arrested again on Jan. 14 and charged with burglary and trespassing for allegedly stealing a check from the business Becker Gurian at 513 Central Ave.
Jose Galarza Mancilla, 25, of the 2600 block of Waukegan Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 and charged with residential burglary, criminal trespassing and theft after police were dispatched to the 2500 block of Waukegan Avenue for a report of a burglary in progress.
Ulises I. Gomez-Lopez, 28, of the 500 block of Will Street, Park City, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 22 following a traffic stop on Skokie Valley Road. Officers arrested him and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and cited him for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage.
