HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The information below comes from Highland Park and Highwood police and Lake County courts as a record of those arrested by police. Being arrested does not mean a person is guilty of the charged offense. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state are often dropped or reduced. Everyone named below is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Updated information about the following cases may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts.

INCIDENTS

VANDALISM
Police were notified on the morning of March 6 that someone had spray painted the words "Wiz Kid" on the pillars of the overpass bridge in the 1500 block of Skokie Valley Road.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2000 block of West Gate Terrace during the night of March 8 or morning of March 8. It had yet to be recovered nearly two weeks later.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES

  • Police discovered around 3 a.m. on March 2 that someone broke into Drybar Louys Salon, 1820 Second St. The owner reported $100 was stolen.
  • Shortly before 9:45 p.m. on March 7, police got a report that someone had shattered the front door of Allura Fine Jewelry Store, 1848 First Street, smashed multiple cases inside and made off with jewelry roughly estimated to be worth $40,000.
  • Someone broke into Gerber Collision and Glass, 1235 Park Avenue West, through the service bay door prior to 4:45 p.m. on March 13. Police reported the office and some of the cars were ransacked but nothing appeared to have been stolen.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone broke into a food truck between Dec. 28 and Feb. 28 and stole an estimated $2,500 worth of items. Police are not sure where the burglary took place.
  • Someone burglarized a car in the 600 block of Burton Avenue prior to 7 a.m. on March 17 while its owner was at work. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.
  • Around 3:30 p.m. on March 17, police got a report that someone had burglarized a car parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Pleasant Avenue and rummaged through the interior. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone drove into the parking lot of Gravity Auto, 2772 Skokie Valley Road, and smashed the rear window of parked car before leaving prior to 6 a.m. Feb. 29.
  • On March 15, someone broke the glass on the front door of a home in the 400 block of Hazel Avenue.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Someone stole a bottle of Casamigos tequila from the Binny's Beverage Depot at 153 Skokie Valley Road prior to 1 p.m. Feb. 29 for a loss of $50.
  • At some point prior to 6 p.m. on March 13, someone stole three iPads from the Target at 2099 Skokie Valley Road for a loss of $1,619.
  • Two unidentified women or girls stole a bottle of wine valued at $20 from the Walgreens, 655 Elm Place, prior to 11:30 p.m. on March 15.

THEFTS

  • Someone stole 30 cartons of cigarettes from a truck trailer at the BP gas station at 1881 Deerfield Road prior to the afternoon of Feb. 27. The total loss from the theft was reported to be $3,000.
  • Someone stole a bag of laundry valued at $3,700 after it was delivered to a home in the 500 block of Roger Williams Avenue prior to noon on March 5.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 21-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 7 a.m. on March 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic crash in the northbound lanes of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.

A 30-year-old Grayslake man was arrested around 10 p.m. on March 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher after police investigating a complaint about a bad driver pulled him over on Skokie Valley Road. Officers also issued him a citation for improper lane usage.

A 36-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested around 11 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher after police were called to the 1800 block of Green Bay Road for a report of a dispute there.

A 24-year-old Chicago man tuned himself in to Highland Park police on the afternoon of March 11 on a charge of leaving the scene of a vehicle damage accident. He was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 45-year-old Gurnee woman was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on March 16 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher following a traffic stop on Skokie Valley Road. She was also cited for speeding, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving without lights when required and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver

Earl Palmer, 68, of the 4900 block of North Kenmore Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9 a.m. on March 16 and charged with three felony counts of burglary — one of a car, one of a building and one of a home — after police were called to the 1800 block of First Street. A car alarm alerted a homeowner and police located Palmer at the scene with portable electronic devices and glasses that had been stolen.
