HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

SCHOOL BURGLARY
Four unidentified people got into Elm Place School, 2031 Sheridan Road, through an unlocked entrance at some point prior to 7 p.m. on May 11. Two unspecified items of unknown value were reported stolen from inside.

LICENSE PLATE THEFT
Someone stole a dealership license plate from a parked car at the Highland Park Ford dealership at 1333 Park Ave. West at an unknown time prior to 4 p.m. on May 16.

CAR BURGLARIES
Someone stole a wallet from a car that was left unlocked in the 2100 block of St. John's Avenue during the night of May 18 or early morning hours of May 19 for an estimated loss of about $360. The wallet contained cash, a driver's license and credit cards that were later used at multiple gas stations and vending machines. Three other cars were burglarized during the same period in the same block, although nothing was reported stolen from inside them.

ANTISEMITIC VANDALISM
Around 10 a.m. on May 19, police were called to the 1900 block of Park Avenue West for a report that a garbage can had been defaced near a pond at an unknown time.

CONSTRUCTION SITE BURGLARY
Someone stole about $3,600 worth of tools from a construction site in the 2100 block of St John's Avenue during the night of May 19 or early morning hours of May 20.

JEWELRY THEFT
On the evening of May 20, police were called to the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road and told that someone had stolen about $6,500 worth of rings from a purse at an unknown time.

SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole about $2,400 worth of various toiletry items from the Target store at 2099 Skokie Valley Road around 1 p.m. on May 25. Police were told more than two days later.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package delivered to a Deerfield Road home around 10:45 a.m. on May 27. The package contained about $240 worth of clothes.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
At some point between 7:30 p.m. on May 27 and 9:30 a.m. on May 28, someone damaged a garage in the 2400 block of Sheridan Road with eggs and graffiti, causing an unknown amount of damage.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
Someone stole catalytic converters from a pair of Toyota Prii parked in the lot of a hotel in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road at some point during the night of May 27 or early morning hours of May 28.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Joshua R. Burgos, 28, of the 200 block of Sheridan Road, Highwood, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on May 13 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police were called to the Mobil gas station at 2580 Skokie Valley Road for a report that he had menaced someone with a knife.

Heriberto Hernandez, 45, of the 1400 block of East Ports O Call Drive, Palatine, was arrested shortly after 4 a.m. on May 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers were called to a complaint about a bad driver on Park Avenue West near Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for operating a vehicle with expired plates and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

Julie A. Reinstein, 63, of the 900 block of Judson Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested shortly after 11:45 p.m. on May 16 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery and two counts of obstructing a peace officer after police were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at her home.

Jordan A. Wexler, 41, of the 1600 block of Huntington Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on May 18 and charged with two counts of felony aggravated domestic battery and two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery after police were called to the lobby of a building in the 1600 block of Huntington Lane. Wexler, who is accused of strangling another person, was located by an assisting agency and taken into custody.

Daron James Rogan, 50, of the 600 block of Sheridan Road, Highwood, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on May 18 after officers called to assist a citizen in the 1300 block of Half Day Road found he had an active warrant issued by authorities in Missouri.

Marco Antonio Berete, 32, of the 2500 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park, was arrested around 11:15 p.m. on May 21 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol while not having a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended or revoked license and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver after he crashed into a parked car in the 500 block of Ravinia Drive. Officers also issued him citations for failure to give information after striking an unattended vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Brian K. Cooper, 36, of the 400 block of Johelia Trail, Antioch, was arrested around 1 a.m. on May 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at Skokie Valley Road and Chantilly Boulevard. Cooper was also issued a citation for speeding.

Christine M. Davis, 40, of Highland Park, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on May 28 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery after police were called to a report of disturbance in the 300 block of Sumac Road.

Vanessa I. Diaz, 23, of the 400 block of Burton Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 4 p.m. on May 29 and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery and one count of resisting arrest after police were called to an argument in the parking lot of the 1800 block of Green Bay Road. Diaz was later taken into custody at the Highland Park Police Department.
