At Least 8 Cars Involved In Pileup Crash Due To Ice On Route 41 In Highland Park

Multiple people were transported to hospitals after at least eight vehicles were involved in a pileup caused by icy conditions on Route 41 in Highland Park Saturday evening.

The Northbrook Fire Department and Highland Park Fire Department responded around 6:50 p.m. Saturday to Route 41 near Lake Cook Road for a report of a multiple-vehicle crash with injuries.

Fire crews arrived to find eight vehicles involved in the crash. Two additional vehicles were reportedly involved but left the scene.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to bring at least seven ambulances to the scene.

The Illinois State Police assisted in blocking the northbound lanes of Route 41 south of Lake Cook Road and diverted traffic onto Lake Cook Road.

Fire officials at the scene said six people were transported to Highland Park Hospital and Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview.

The extent of the victims’ injuries was not immediately known. The Highland Park Police Department is investigating the crash.

Fire officials said that Route 41 was icy at the time of the incident.

The National Weather Service had activated a winter weather advisory for much of the Chicago area around 3 p.m. Saturday due to light freezing rain that caused hazardous road conditions into Saturday evening.
