Local Survivor’s Nonprofit is Nominated for National Award

Northfield Mom's Cancer Battle is Helping Others

What began as one woman’s fight for survival has grown into a national movement of hope, healing, and support for cancer survivors.

After spending six grueling months in the hospital battling a rare form of blood cancer, Laura Hendricks emerged victorious, but not without struggle. Instead of the joy she expected as a survivor, Laura felt lost, lonely, and uncertain about the next chapter of life after treatment. Determined to turn her pain into purpose, Laura and her husband, Brock Hendricks, launched Luminaries: Cancer Survivorship, a nonprofit dedicated to helping survivors not just live, but truly thrive.

Through resources, community programs, and thoughtfully curated Cancer Survivorship Essentials Kits, Luminaries provides survivors with the tools they need to embrace strength, healing, and hope.

Now, Luminaries has earned national recognition! The Luminaries Survivorship Kits have been nominated by USA TODAY for Best Health & Wellness Subscription Box in the prestigious 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

“This nomination is more than an honor, it’s a chance to bring awareness to the struggles survivors face after treatment and the support they desperately need,” said Laura. “I never imagined that what started from my own journey and survivorship could inspire and empower so many others.”

“Being recognized on a national level is truly humbling,” said Brock. “It affirms the mission of Luminaries and reminds every survivor that their story matters. Together, we’re shining a light of hope, and we couldn’t be prouder to see our kits honored in this way.”

The public is invited to support Luminaries by casting a vote in the USA TODAY 10 Best Awards. Voting continues through September 30th and can be submitted daily at: https://10best.usatoday.com/awards/luminaries-kits/
