Featured Obituary:

Stanley J. Shell, Jr., 77, of Deerfield, Illinois, died at home from Parkinson's Disease on April 29, 2024.

He was born in Chicago on May 3, 1946, to Stanley J. Shell, Sr., and Olga Shell (Fornall). As a child, Stanley began playing the clarinet, taking lessons and playing duets with his siblings. This early start set the stage for a lifelong passion for music.

Stanley graduated from Lake Tech High School and went on to study music education and performance at Northern Illinois University, where he earned both his undergraduate and master's degrees. He began his teaching career at Gordon Tech High School in Chicago, conducting many football halftime shows with his best friend, Howie Fierstein. After teaching at several schools, he then taught at Shabonee Elementary School and Wood Oaks Junior High School. Stanley retired after 30 years of teaching and conducting beginners and middle school students in Northbrook School District 27.

Stanley also loved running and completed several marathons, including the 100th Boston Marathon. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls, as well as camping with friends.
