Featured Obituary:

Michael Edward Burns, 73 of Highland Park, IL passed away on December 5th, 2023. Michael was born on September 26,1950 in Hoosick Falls, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Burns.

Michael served with the United States Army from August 1970 to September 1992. He attended US Military Police school in Fort Gordon, Georgia, and Fort McClellan Alabama where he took criminal investigation courses and furthered his college education and graduated from Columbia College. Michael then furthered his career with the United States Army and was a Criminal Investigator, he started as Military Police and worked up to Asst. Special Agent and retired as Chief of Police for the remainder of his career.

Michael met his Wife Griselda while he was stationed in Panama and soon after were married. Michael and his family were stationed in West Germany where they enjoyed a lot of their time exploring the country. Michael then was stationed at Fort Sheridan Military Base where he retired. Michael loved the area and built their life in Highland Park. Michael enjoyed his career in the Army and loved to share his stories with his friends and family and even his granddaughter Olivia.

Michael was awarded the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd award) Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.

Michael is survived by his loving wife Griselda Burns and his daughter Jessica Smith, Timothy Smith (son-in-law), and granddaughter Olivia Smith.
