Featured Obituary:
Florence “Becky” DeLarm passed away at her Deerfield home on Wednesday, March 22nd. She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert in 1999. In her 95 years, Becky enriched the lives of her friends, family, and work colleagues who had the good fortune to know her, and she helped countless strangers during her long and dedicated career in nursing.
Always a go-getter, she was a Pawtucket Rhode Island High School “Westerner” cheerleader and a singer with The Peppes Sisters, a musical group led by her older sister Cora. Upon graduating High School she joined The United States Cadet Nurse Corps which provided her with a tuition-free path to fulfilling her dream of becoming a registered nurse. While her nursing career spanned almost every aspect of health services, including maternity and mental health, she was drawn to the pace and rigors of the emergency room. A natural-born leader, she is credited with developing one of the first Paramedic & Emergency Medical Technician programs in the country at Highland Park Hospital and shared many a story of harrowing rainy night calls in the back of a speeding ambulance. In her 50’s she decided to go back to school where she earned her Master’s degree in Hospital Administration. She ended her career as the Head of Nursing at the Presbyterian Homes Senior and Assisted Living facility in Evanston and Lake Forest.Read more via Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home »
