Featured Obituary:
Sally Wagner Bowers, beloved wife of David Bowers, loving mother of Ashley Cladouhos and Whitman Bowers, dear grandmother of Sophia Cladouhos, Samuel Cladouhos, Remsen Bowers and Maya Bowers, passed away March 28, 2023.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Sally earned Bachelor of Education and Master of Music degrees from The Ohio State University. Sally’s passion for teaching allowed her to touch the lives of many. From teaching flute and instrumental music privately, to playing for several orchestras and, maybe most importantly, establishing multiple organizations that helped senior citizens start or continue their musical journey.
Sally taught flute at the Music Institute of Chicago and Lake Forest College for many years. She founded the Music Institute of Chicago New Horizons Band for senior citizens and, several years later, organized the North Shore New Horizons Band. The North Shore New Horizons Band had a unique connection with the education department of the Northwestern University School of Music and the Band provided a rich musical experience for twenty-three years. She also directed DePaul University’s New Horizons Band for several years and was a conductor at many New Horizons band gatherings throughout the country. She also served on the board of the New Horizons International Music Association. Sally was a founding member of the Chicago Flute Association, a member of the National Flute Association, a member of the Lake Forest Symphony and a founding member of the Lake Forest Civic Orchestra.
Sally was an avid dog lover and raised many miniature schnauzers, devoting constant attention to them. Rocky and JoJo will miss her greatly. She loved her backyard and enjoyed the development of her gardens from spring through fall, as well as feeding the large koi fish in her pond. She was very proud of the relationships Ashley and Whitman had with their spouses and children.Read more via Donnellan Family Funeral Home »
