Pedestrian Struck By Metra Train In Highland Park

There was no word on the condition of a person who was struck by a northbound train at the Elm Place crossing in downtown Highland Park.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — An outbound Metra train struck a person on the tracks Thursday afternoon in Highland Park, rail officials said.

Shortly before 5:45 p.m., a train headed to Kenosha on the Union Pacific-North Line struck a female pedestrian north of the downtown station, according to a Metra spokesperson.

Fire crews transported her to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville after she was struck near the Elm Place crossing. She remained hospitalized Friday afternoon, officials said.

Metra officials worked to arrange transportation for the train's occupants as trains remained halted for about two hours after the incident.

Highland Park police said Metra police are handling the investigation of the incident. A Metra spokesperson said Friday the incident remained under investigation.
