The Recycled Art Sale is Coming

All of your questions about the North Shore's Biggest Treasure Hunt, answered.

(Design by Linda Leonard)

Around this time of year, The Art Center gets a lot of calls, mainly questions about one of our biggest annual events: The Recycled Art Sale. We are going to attempt to answer the most frequently asked questions below.

  1. What is Recycled? For 37 years, The Art Center has hosted this vibrant event that showcases thousands of unique art pieces generously donated by private collectors, galleries, and institutions, giving attendees the chance to discover an eclectic array of high-quality items for a reasonable price.
  2. What is the sale for? All funds collected, admission fees, sponsorships, art sales, and donations go toward our general operating funds. This event goes a long way towards keeping our art classes and community programs alive!
  3. Is The Art Center still accepting art donations? Yes! Feel free to bring in your art donations whenever we are open, Monday - Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM.
  4. What kinds of donations do you accept? We accept paintings, drawings, photography, posters, sculpture, mixed media, jewelry, frames, and more! We have accepted furniture and decorative rugs in the past, but we are no longer able to accept those types of donations.
  5. What do you do with the leftover art? First of all, we hope there isn’t anything left over! Unsold items of high value are held for next year. At the end of the sale, the remaining donated art is recycled to Community Partners for Affordable Housing, Chicago Furniture Bank, and other local not-for-profits.
  6. Should I attend the opening night? Of course! Opening night has two sections. The VIP Preview at 5 PM is a ticketed event ($175), and serious shoppers buy tickets way in advance to have early access to the best pieces. At 6 PM, we welcome another round of shoppers ($75). Most people agree that the pieces they find, whether for their own collection or for resale, more than make up the cost of the ticket. The ticket also includes an open bar and a food truck. It’s a really fun party centered around the artwork!
  7. Should I attend more than once? Absolutely. We continue to add new items as we receive them!
  8. Is it free after opening night? We charge $10 for opening weekend, Saturday 10/11, and Sunday 10/12, and your admission will get you in all weekend. Beginning on Monday, 10/13, entry is free for the rest of the sale.
  9. Is there an evening event? Yes! On Wednesday, 10/15, we’ll stay open until 8 PM.
  10. Do we need volunteers? Yes! Volunteers help us make this event possible. Email us at info@theartcenterhp.org for more information about volunteering.
  11. Do we need sponsors? Yes! The Recycled Art Sale is a great opportunity to get your name in front of the thousands of people coming through our doors. Reach out to Stina Taylor at staylor@theartcenterhp.org or visit the event page linked below for more information about sponsorships.

The Recycled Art Sale will be held at The Art Center Highland Park from October 10 to 18.
