Scottie Pippen Lists Highland Park Mansion On Airbnb For Olympics

The 2-time gold medalist is renting out his house for 1-night stays coinciding with the knockout rounds of the men's basketball tournament.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — In a promotion hearkening back to the original "Dream Team" nearly three decades ago, NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen listed his Highland Park mansion with the short-term rental company Airbnb.

For $92 a night, up to four guests at a time will have the opportunity to watch Team USA go for gold at Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 from the home of a two-time Olympic gold medalist. The price is a reference to the first year that professional basketball players were permitted to participate in the Olympics.

“Being able to represent the United States as an Olympian twice was an incredible honor as an athlete,” Pippen said, announcing the promotion. “Playing alongside the best of the best with Team USA will always be a career highlight for me, and I’m excited to host basketball fans at my home to witness the next generation of athletes performing at the top of their sport."

The Old Mill Road home is available for three one-night stays next month on Aug. 2, Aug. 4 and Aug. 6 — dates scheduled to coincide with the knockout rounds of the men's basketball tournament.

According to the listing, guests will be able to check out memorabilia from Pippen's time as an Olympian, watch footage of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics or shoot hoops on the former Chicago Bull's indoor and outdoor basketball courts.

"Just enjoy yourself, I got great neighbors," Pippen said. "And keep the noise down. I want to keep the neighbors nice."

The Airbnb rental is available only to residents of the United States. No travel costs are included. Booking is due to open at noon on July 22.

Pippen purchased the newly constructed six-bedroom, nearly 10,000-square-foot Highland Park house in 2004 and first listed for sale in 2016 with an asking price of $3.1 million.

The price tag was reduced below $1.7 million ahead of the coronavirus pandemic before being relisted for $2.1 million nearly a year ago. The house has also been listed for rent at $16,000 a month.

Recently, Pippen has been promoting a brand of bourbon and of organic popcorn. In November, he is due to release a memoir called "Unguarded" with co-writer Michael Arkush.

Last month, Pippen made waves in the world of sports media when he described former coach Phil Jackson as racist for directing him to pass the ball to Toni Kukoc for a game-winning shot in game 3 of the 1994 NBA playoffs.

On the evening before the men's gold medal game, Aug. 5, Pippen is also hosting a video teleconference for up to 10 people. Booking for the $35-per-person event also opens July 22.

"When you enter my home," Pippen says in the Airbnb listing, "you’ll step into sport history."
