Suspected Drunken Driver Crashes Into 2 Cars In Highland Park: Police

According to Highland Park Police, the man ran a red light and crashed into two other cars before attempting to run away.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A Schaumburg man suspected of driving under the influence and crashing into two cars was arrested in Highland Park on Sunday, police said.

Officers with the Highland Park Police Department saw a black 2024 Ram pickup truck on Green Bay Road and Onwentsia Avenue at 3 p.m. that had reportedly fled from police in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove and Northbrook. At the time, an HPPD officer turned on his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the truck, but it fled and the officer chose not to pursue.

Just minutes later at 3:06 p.m., HPPD responded to a 911 call reporting a crash on Green Bay Road at Bob-O-Link Road.

According to preliminary investigation results, the driver of the Ram, identified as 40-year-old, was traveling southbound at the intersection when he ran a red light crashed into 2024 Audi Q3 and a 2023 Tesla Model Y.

Police did not specify if any people in the other two cars suffered injuries in relation to the crash.

Following the crash, Arrstanov fled on foot, but was located shortly after at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue West and Ridgewood Drive. During the arrest, an officer displayed a Taser, but did not discharge it, authorities told Patch.

Police presented the case to the Lake County State's Attorney's Office and it approved the following charges against Arrstanov:

  • Driving on a sidewalk
  • DUI
  • Fleeing to elude
  • Improper lane usage
  • Disobeying a traffic control device
  • Open transportation of alcohol
  • DUI involving a crash with no proof of insurance
  • Driving without proof of insurance
  • Two counts of leaving the scene of an injury accident
  • Failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash

Arrastanov appeared in court in Waukegan on Dec. 1.
