Car Drives Into Train In Highland Park, Metra Officials Say
An inbound Union Pacific-North Line train was struck by a motorist near the Ravinia station on Wednesday afternoon.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Inbound trains were halted in Highland Park Wednesday after a car struck a train, Metra officials said.
According to a Metra spokesperson, train No. 346 was hit by a vehicle near the Ravinia train station around 2:45 p.m. and delayed for about an hour.
Police said it appears the driver of a Toyota Prius was wearing flip-flops that became caught up in the cars pedals near the crossing.

The driver was able to maneuver around the railroad grate but was unable to stop before striking into the train, police said.
Officers issued driver of the Toyota citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid accident and failure to stop at railroad tracks.

There were no injuries reported among passengers or occupants of the vehicle, according to police and Metra spokespeople.
Outbound trains remained in service, and Metra said commuters would experience minimal to moderate delays.
Metra officials reported more delays on the Union Pacific-North Line shortly after 5:30 p.m. due to a failure of the Union Pacific signal system.
