HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A trio of Highland Park polling places are due to remain open for an additional 95 minutes on Election Day, according to city and county officials.

The Lake County clerk petitioned a judge to extend voting hours to 8:35 p.m. at Braeside Elementary School, 150 Pierce Road, Red Oak Elementary School, 530 Red Oak Lane, and the Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Lane.

Voting services were halted at all three locations from 10:55 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. while Highland Park High School was locked down due to a report of a student with a gun.

One other polling place will have extended hours because it opened late, according to the clerk's office. The JIC Community Development Center, 202 S. Genesee St., Waukegan, will be open an additional 40 minutes.

All other polling places are due to close at 7 p.m.

Clerk Anthony Vega said in a statement that election results will not start to be publicly uploaded until all polling places have closed at 8:35 p.m.

"I am immensely thankful for the quick action of our local law enforcement, the City of Highland Park, Township High School District 113 and North Shore School District 112 regarding today's incident at Highland Park High School that put three of our polling sites on lockdown," Vega said in a statement.

"The quick actions of our local law enforcement enabled the lockdown to be lifted and voting resumed at these locations," the clerk said.
