Approach of Hinsdale's Newest Interior Designer 'A Little Bit Different'

Daiva Karla's DK 4home studio on Chicago Avenue services clients with projects of all types and scopes.

After 10 years of working successfully out of her home, Daiva Karla this spring opened DK 4home, her first design studio, at 24 W. Chicago Ave. in Hinsdale with the hope that she can expand her clientele in the area.

“Most of my clients are in Chicago,” Karla said, “but I would like to have clients here so that’s why I’ve opened a studio.”

Karla, a Lithuanian native who lives in Downers Grove, says her style based on “simplicity and visual comfort” differs from others in her industry who employ a mostly-traditional approach.

The designer who works on projects large and small at homes, offices and businesses has a printed handout that describes her work as “a mix of modern and traditional forms to create visual interest.”

If you want heavy, wood-based designs, Karla said she’s probably not the designer to go to.

“I’m a little bit different and the people see that through my portfolio,” she said.

Karla said she is a full-service designer who will provide floor plans and electrical plans before implementing the design and providing the furniture and artwork.

“Each client to me is very unique and I’m working with them individually,” Karla said.

Karla moved to the U.S. from Lithuania with her husband 15 years ago. Holding a degree in economics, she worked in accounting for a couple of years while studying design at College of DuPage and Harrington College of Design.

“When I came here I just realized [interior design] is what I want to do,” Karla said. “For me this was a career change.”

And a successful one, it appears. Karla was one of 16 top Chicago designers featured in i4Design Magazine last year.

DK 4home is located just west of Fuller’s Car Wash, next door to the former Drapery Connection space. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on Monday.
