Group Ditches Cab Driver After $72 Ride: Police Blotter

Clever Cab Crooks

Four unknown people fled a cab that had taken them to Hinsdale from Chicago without paying their fare at 2:27 a.m., police said.

The group had directed the driver to drop them off at a home in the 100 block of East 8th Street, but it was later discovered the home was for sale and unoccupied.

The fare owed was $72. The case is currently pending.

Counterfeit Cash

An unknown person used a counterfeit $20 bill to make a purchase at Whole Foods, 500 E. Ogden Ave., between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., police say.

The case is currently pending.

Bell Goes Missing

An unknown person stole a metal bell that hung outside the entrance to a house in the 400 block of East 4th Street between 2 p.m. July 16 and 3:30 p.m. July 18, police said.

The value of the bell is unknown and the case is currently pending.

TUESDAY, JULY 16

Tire, Rim Snatched

An unknown person stole a tire and rim worth a combined $175 from a car parked in the driveway of a home in the 600 block of North York Road between 9 p.m. July 15 and 9 a.m. July 16, police say.

The case is currently pending.
