CLARENDON HILLS, IL – A developer is working on a plan for the site of an old Clarendon Hills bar that was torn down a year ago because of code issues, an official said Friday.

The plan is centered on a daycare, but the developer has not submitted a formal application yet, Village Manager Zach Creer told Patch in an email.

The site, where Tracy's Tavern once was, is at the southwest corner of 55th Street and Western Avenue.

In 2022, a divided Village Board rejected Hinsdale-based KrohVan's proposal for a drive-thru for a Dunkin' Donuts.

The developer later abandoned the project and criticized Clarendon Hills as a place where businesses "go to die."

Traffic was a big issue when neighbors protested the drive-thru. For years, some have suggested a traffic light at 55th and Western.

Last week, the Village Board created a special tax district known as a TIF for areas along 55th Street, including the old Tracy's Tavern site. The goal is to spur development.
