Stray Goat Finds a New Home with Help from the Hinsdale Humane Society

The goat, found wandering Oak Brook, was named Cubbie after the curse of the billy goat.

Oak Brook police contacted the shelter manager for the Hinsdale Humane Society on Sept. 29 with an unusual request.

The shelter has a contract with police to take in dogs and cats, but this request involved a whole other animal — a stray goat.

Jennifer Vlazny, shelter manager, agreed to accept the goat, which arrived at the shelter in an officer’s patrol car, according to the Hinsdale Humane Society. Samantha Cheatham, assistant shelter manager, carried the goat to a kennel. The docile male was dubbed Cubbie, after the curse of the billy goat placed on the Chicago Cubs.

Cubbie was given fresh water and hay from a stable where Vlazny keeps her horses, but despite the comfortable conditions and the high level of care, he refused to fill his rescuers in on his history or how he came to wander Oak Brook.

The Hinsdale Humane Society tried to find his owner, to no avail, and Vlazney has arranged for Cubbie to live on a reputable farm in the Chicago area, according to the society. He arrived at his new home Oct. 5.

Cubbie the goat is just one among many unusual rescues sheltered at the Hinsdale Humane Society. The shelter has taken in a snake, an iguana, a Canadian goose, a blue heron, a red tailed hawk, a quaker parrot, chickens and a fox.

These wild animals have all been relocated to wildlife shelters or facilities, according to the society.
