100+ Women Who Care of Will County donates to Shady Oaks Camp

100+ Women Who Care of Will County “Big Check” presentation to Shady Oaks Camp.

On December 14, 2024 members of 100+ Women Who Care serving Will County had their “big check” presentation donating $15,800 to Shady Oaks Camp. Scott Steele, Executive Director was presented the checks by members of 100+ Women Who Care of Will County. The giving circle's $10,800 was increased by $5,000 from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation totaling $15,800.
Shady Oaks Camp provides outdoor fun and recreation for children and adults with disabilities. The camp, located in Homer Glen, was built specifically around the special needs of these campers. Shady Oaks provides 8 weeks of 1:1 camping for male and female campers. Programs at the camp include planned recreation, games, arts & crafts and swimming. All are adapted to fit the needs of each individual camper.
“The families at SOC would like to thank 100+ Women Who Care of Will County and the Schulze Foundation. We are overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. Now more than ever we need the support of the community to help us continue our vital program that was started 78 years ago by a group of caring parents. Your donation will go a long way in ensuring SOC continues to provide services for people with disabilities in our community,” said Scott.
100+ WWC is a philanthropic group formed for local women who are interested in supporting their communities by contributing to Will County charities together as a group to increase the donation impact. Member Sheila Newcomb stated, “I have been a part of 100+ women’s group for over 7 years now and the impact the group continues to make in our community is why I love being a part of it.”
At each of the quarterly meetings members nominate charities, three are chosen at random, and after a brief presentation, the members vote on which charity to support. Once the winning charity is announced, everyone writes a $100 check, on the spot directly to that charity. All charities nominated must be located in, and serve Will County and must have 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
As individuals it is difficult to make a very large impact, but as a group they have the ability to contribute to the growth of their communities in ways that they never before thought possible. The size of their quarterly donations is limited only by the members they have!
