Democracy dies in the Village of Homer Glen.
Seventeen candidates were on the ballot running for 3 trustee spots.
That by itself should make citizens wonder what in the Wild Wild World of Sports is going on at Homer Glen village hall.

The Mayor claims that the fourteen candidates just want to force a primary election. Hmmm??? Maybe the Mayor thinks this because it’s exactly what she and her handpicked candidates for Homer Township offices are doing. How can it be bad for one government body and not for the other? (This writer thinks this is the typical double standard of this village administration.)
What are some of the reasons stated by the fourteen candidates, about why they are running for Village trustee?

⚫️Out of control Spending / with property tax increases on the horizon.
⚫️the toxic Culture of divisiveness in the village.
⚫️to Work together with other government bodies and not as rivals.
⚫️Because one of the best Trustees Homer Glen has ever had, Dan Fialko, is not running for reelection & his systematic and thorough questioning of village spending and common-sense approach to governance will be sorely missed. We need a similar replacement for Trustee Fialko.
Now “the culture of division” incumbents are endorsing three candidates, and the full weight and resources of the Village of Homer Glen has been unleashed on the fourteen everyday citizen who are running to improve and protect our village. The village has an election board, and the Village is paying the village attorney (to use his legal jiujitsu) to systematically ridicule and embarrass the fourteen other candidates and have them “legally” removed from the ballot.
Democracy dies at the village of Homer Glen. If the “integrity” slate incumbents have their way, voters will only get to vote for 3 candidates for village trustee, with 3 candidates listed on the ballot.
All fourteen petition objections were filed by just one Homer Glen citizen, a friend of the Mayor. These fourteen citizens must spend their own money on legal representation to defend themselves against the taxpayer funded village attorney and Election Board. This is nothing but the weaponization of government against its own citizens. The Village Election Board is exclusively made up of Homer Glen “integrity” slate candidates, led by the power-hungry Mayor of our village (see Dalton Illinois mayor model).
What are the reasons everyday citizens are being removed from the ballot by the Mayor’s “integrity” slate’s Election board?
⚫️ including a “nickname” as part of your name on the ballot.
⚫️using your own Homer Glen business P.O. Box on your petition.
⚫️ bringing a citizen’s private personal relationship issue before the board and asking embarrassing questions and trying to humiliate you.
⚫️removing 4 for wanting to serve their community as school board members.
Look at how the Mayor and the “integrity” slate Trustees ( Steilen, Reynders, "No Show" McNaughton, & Mason) demonstrate zero fiscal responsibility. December 11th’s agenda:
- $24K in Legal Fees
- Village Manager to get raise to $172k
- Over 1 million in reckless spending for one month.
- Censorship of Residents on Social Media

You can't make this stuff up. If you are new to paying attention to how Homer Glen elected officials spend your tax $$$, read it and weep. Property tax increases are on the horizon.
Isn't Trustee Steilen running for Homer Township Supervisor and isn't Trustee Reynders up for re-election with the Village of Homer Glen?
NO THANK YOU.
These are the reasons why there are seventeen citizens running for three open trustee seats. Alarm bells are ringing. But if the mayor and her election board of “integrity" slate members have their way, you will only get to vote for three, with only three on the ballot.
