IDOT Work On Lockport's 9th Street Bridge To Begin In May, Close Lanes

The work on the stretch of the bridge between Illinois 53 and Old 9th Street will require lane closures and will run through early December.

LOCKPORT, IL —Lockport-area drivers can expect to experience upcoming lane closures on a daily basis as the Illinois Department of Transportation will begin making repairs to the 9th Street Bridge next month.

IDOT officials announced on Wednesday that the repairs to the bridge on 9th Street (Illinois Route 7) between Independence Boulevard (Illinois 53) and Old 9th Street in Lockport will begin on May 9, weather permitting.

The project will include deck repairs and the installation of a new deck overlay and should be completed by December, IDOT officials said.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, IDOT said in a news release. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

The project is part of the $33.2 billion Rebuild Illinois capital project, which is repairing more than 3,500 miles of roadway and nine million square feet of bridge space around the state.
