Since this is Deliberto's fourth book, she said the process has become easier, but she's also now more critical of her final product.
"With every book, I’ve learned a great deal, and that growth has made me far pickier than I was when I first started," she said.

"Garbage Squirrel" is part of the "Anthony & Bruno" series, so readers can expect characters from those books to make an appearance, Deliberto said.
However, she said "Garbage Squirrel" carries a deeper message than the earlier books.
"While it still explores themes of friendship, it is a redemption story that lightly touches on themes of homelessness, compassion and empathy," Deliberto said. "My goal was to create a story that feels fun and familiar for young readers, while gently opening the door to more meaningful conversations."
