Lockport, Homer Glen Residents Encouraged To Explore Via Metra

LOCKPORT, IL — This Saturday will be the second of five consecutive fall Saturdays that Metra is offering special service on the Heritage Corridor Line, and the train operator is encouraging locals to use the service to explore communities and recreational opportunities in the area.

On its website, Metra has listed several events, sites, biking/hiking paths and food and drink options in local communities like: Joliet, Lockport, Romeoville, Lemont and Willow Springs. Many attractions are listed alongside the time and distance it takes to get there from the nearest Metra station.

According to Metra, each Saturday between Sept. 25 and Oct. 16, the train operator will be offering two outbound and two inbound trains along the Heritage Corridor route, and riders can purchase a $7 Saturday Pass for unlimited travel on that day.

"Riders (will have) easy access to bike and running paths, festivals, craft breweries, restaurants and vibrant communities along this historic route," Metra said on its website.

This weekend's highlights along the Heritage Corridor Line, include:

• Joliet Pride Fest, 201 W. Jefferson St., a 3 minute walk (0.6 miles) from the nearest station.
• Tunes & Brews on Rt. 66 in Joliet, Van Buren Street and Chicago Street, a 5 minute walk (0.2 miles) from the nearest station.
• Tangled Roots Oktoberfest in Lockport, Chevron Field, 301 W. 2nd St., a 19 minute walk (0.9 miles) from the nearest station.

Upcoming events, include:

Oct. 2

• Forge Fall Fest in Lemont, 1001 Main Street, attendees receive 15 percent off activity or food/beverage when they show or mention a Metra ticket.

Oct. 9

• Trick or Treat Trail and Witches Walk in Lemont, Lemont Park District Centennial Park, 16028 W 127th St., and downtown Lemont.
