Crashed Vehicle Found Struck By Gunfire In Lockport Township: Sheriff

Three people were questioned but released, and a witness said someone knocked on their door claiming to have been shot, police said.

LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP, IL — A car was struck by gunfire in Lockport Township near Green Garden Place and Princeton Street on Thursday afternoon, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

The Will County Sheriff's Office responded Thursday for a vehicle that had crashed into a fence, police said. Once at the scene, officers saw that the vehicle had been struck by gunfire, and it was unoccupied.

The Lockport Fire Protection District told police they saw three men chasing another man on Fairmont Avenue. The sheriff's office said that while canvassing the area, a witness also told police that a man had knocked on his door and asked him to call the police because he had been shot.

Deputies were not able to find any evidence of a person who was shot, the sheriff's office said.

Three people were detained for questioning regarding this incident and later released without charges, police said. No gunshot victim was found.
