Domestic Call Leads to Resisting Arrest

A Homewood man was charged with two counts of resisting arrest and one count of assault, police said, after he lunged at a police officer “in an aggressive manner” and struggled to evade arrest.

Police said they were called to 46-year-old Michael Urias’s home on the 18200 block of Hart Avenue in Homewood around 5 p.m. on Nov. 6 to investigate a domestic disturbance report. Urias was standing outside the residence when police arrived, and he began acting erratically when police asked for identification, according to the report. Police said they arrested Urias after some struggle and spoke with the female involved who said the fight was over a credit card problem, but that there were no domestic issues. Urias is scheduled to appear at in court in early December.

Accused of DUI

Candyce Young, 33, of the 1600 block of Buena Vista in Chicago Heights, was charged with one count of improper lane usage, operation of an uninsured vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving under the influence of alcohol and alcohol concentration of .175. Police said officers pulled Young over just before 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 6 at the intersection of 183rd Street and Center Avenue in Homewood after observing her vehicle crossing the center road median and continuing to straddle both westbound lanes.

Car Window Shattered in Domestic Attack

A domestic battery occurred sometime around 2:50 a.m. on Nov. 5 on the 100 block of Elder Rd. Police said the offender was at a gas station in Harvey when he scratched the victim's face and threw a bottle at a witness’ vehicle, shattering the driver’s side window. The offender then fled the scene, according to police. Estimated damage to the vehicle is $600.

Broken Window

Someone threw an unknown object through the front window of a home on the 18300 block of Argyle Ave. in Homewood just after 11:30 p.m. on the night of Nov. 4. Police said both complainant and victim were sitting in the living room when an object broke through, creating a large hole. 

Shots Fired Report

Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 1200 block of 190th St. just after 11 p.m. on the night of Nov. 4.

According to the report, police found a large group of people gathered when they arrived on the scene. Police said several people told police a fight that broke out earlier in Hazel Crest between the offender and several of the victims’ husbands, witnesses and friends. While there was no mention of gunfire, a victim did tell police that the offender followed the group home to their current location and broke out the front windshield of her car with a brick, police said.

According to the report, the offender and his friends all fled the scene prior to police arrival.
