HOMEWOOD, IL — An elderly man was found dead inside a burning house in Homewood Wednesday night, police said. Homewood police identified the man as 78-year-old James Kerrigan. Kerrigan's body was found by firefighters responding to the fire in the 1000 block of 185th Street. Police said Kerrigan's body was transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An investigation into his death is ongoing. The Homewood fire department arrived at the scene at about 8:46 p.m. to investigate reports of flames coming from a house. They found a body inside. Police and fire officials said they are continuing to investigate the fire.
