Early Garbage Pickup In Homewood Due To Extreme Heat

Residents are asked to have materials out for Homewood Disposal by 5:30 a.m. their usual pickup day.

HOMEWOOD, IL — With a 115-degree heat index expected later this week, Homewood officials announced Monday that Homewood Disposal Service will pick up garbage one hour earlier on respective service days.

Residents are asked to have their trash and recycling out for a 5:30 a.m. pickup on Wednesday.

An excessive heat watch has already been issued starting Wednesday morning through Thursday evening for part of the Chicago area. The weather service said it will be "dangerously hot" and heat index values up to 115 are possible.

Heat indices of 115 are possible on Wednesday, and up to 110 on Thursday. The weather service said that if storms develop over Lake Michigan on Wednesday or Thursday, then this could disrupt the hot air mass.
