FLOSSMOOR, IL — The National Weather Service has confirmed that Flossmoor was hit by an EF-1 tornado during Monday's massive storm.

As of Wednesday night, the weather service had upped its count from 11 to 19 confirmed tornadoes during the derecho—or a windstorm with fast-moving rain showers—with one tracking from Flossmoor to Thornton.

Multiple EF-0 tornadoes as well as EF-1 tornadoes and one EF-2 have been confirmed. The Enhanced Fujita scale rates tornadoes from 0 to 5 based on wind speed. An EF-0 tornado brings winds of 65 mph to 85 mph, while EF-1 tornadoes bring winds of 86 mph to 110 mph. The last known Chicago-area EF-5 tornado — the highest rating on the scale, with winds over 200 mph — was the 1990 Plainfield-area tornado.
