Flossmoor Officials Pass 2023 Budget With Water, Sewer Improvements

The budget will need to take $6.5 million from the general fund to be balanced, but officials said the money was already going to be spent.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Flossmoor village trustees voted last month to approve a balanced budget with millions earmarked for capital improvement projects.

According to the 2023 budget, the village is expected to spend around $33.8 million and take in $27.3 million. Around $6.5 million will be taken from the village's general fund to close the gap. between the two.

However, a portion of the multi-million dollar deficit was already planned to be taken out of the general fund, officials said at a board meeting. Of the over $6 million, water main improvements and drainage projects were anticipated to put a dent in the general fund.

After planned capital spending, however, the village would have been left half a million dollars short without dipping into the general fund. Officials said surpluses in other areas of the budget allowed them to cover the half a million without worry.

Other notable parts of the budget include $4.7 million for sewer improvement projects, not including the Berry Lane drainage improvement project which will be covered in part by the Army Corps of Engineers and the village's Water and Sewer Fund.
