Flossmoor Woman Known As Oldest Person In Illinois Dies At 111

Juanita Mitchell died Friday after suffering a stroke, according to a report.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — A remarkable Flossmoor woman also known as the oldest person in Illinois has died at the age of 111, Mayor Michelle Nelson shared Saturday.

Juanita Mitchell died Friday, Aug. 4 after suffering a stroke, ABC7 reports.

"The Village of Flossmoor, Illinois lost a dear soul yesterday," Nelson wrote on social media. "She had so many admirable qualities including that she was a caregiver, motivator, community-builder, historian, history maker, and mover and shaker.

"She persevered in spite of many challenges and she had a beautiful smile. She will be missed by many."

Nelson asked that people keep Mitchell's daughter Mary in their prayers.

"Mary helped keep her mother’s stories alive for us to learn from and cared for her with the utmost dedication, grace, and dignity," Nelson said.
