Friend of 40 Years Shot to Death for Touching Buddy's Cadillac: Police

Slain man didn't stop with the touching when car owner brought out his machete, according to prosecutors.

Forty years of friendship apparently doesn’t entitle one to mess with a buddy’s ride.

John Watley, 58, of Calumet Heights, was so angry that his friend of 40 years, Anthony Strong, was putting his fingers all over his Cadillac that he shot him to death on Sunday, according to Cook County prosecutors.

Watley, Strong and others were gathered for a party, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. And drinking was involved. Strong, 48, didn’t get the hint earlier when Watley threatened him and others with a machete and warned them not to touch his car. But Strong kept drumming his fingers on the Caddy, prosecutors said in court Tuesday.

So Watley went to get his gun, reports DNAInfo Chicago.

“Mother ----, you keep messing with me,” Watley yelled before he fired at his friend, prosecutors said. Strong’s wife ran to his side, and Watley allegedly told her “Let that mother ----- die.”
