Homewood Fire Department Open House Saturday

The event is back on after a year hiatus.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The Homewood Fire Department is hosting its annual open house event on Saturday, after a year hiatus amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The event will start at 11 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. at 17950 Dixie Highway. According to the village, one of this year’s special attractions will be a visit by the University of Chicago medical evacuation helicopter.

The village said another special guest this year is forensic scientist Dominique Barksdale. Ms. Barksdale is a trained forensic scientist with experience in a wide variety of areas related to criminology, according to the village. At this year’s open house, Barksdale is expected to demonstrate some concepts related to the forensics of fire.

In addition to the medical helicopter visit, the open house will include:

  • Touch a fire truck
  • A fire safety superhero obstacle course
  • A trip through the smoke trailer
  • Live burn demonstration on the effectiveness of sprinkler system
