Homewood Police Give Auto Part Gift Cards Instead Of Citations
The initiative is funded by Advance Auto Parts and hopes to give drivers money to fix vehicle violations like broken lights.
HOMEWOOD, IL — Homewood police have partnered with Advance Auto Parts to give out auto repair gift cards to drivers who are pulled over for minor equipment violations.
According to a spokesman for Homewood Police Department, the $25 gift cards were given to officials to celebrate the recent opening of Advance Auto Parts' new store at 18026 South Halsted Street.
The cards will be given to random drivers in lieu of citations for common vehicle violations such as broken taillights or burnt out headlights.

Officers said the money will hopefully help residents purchase the items they need to fix the violation instead of having to pay further for a citation. Police did not immediately respond to questions on how many gift cards they plan to give away.
