Homewood's 'Chuck It For Charity' Encourages Garage Sales For A Cause
Village encourages residents to hold garage sales throughout the month of September, with the permit fees to be donated to charity.
HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood is promoting village-wide garage sales during the month of September, and will be donating the collected permit fees to the South Suburban Humane Society. Chuck It For Charity will run through the end of September and all residents are encouraged to participate.
Residents can apply for a garage sale permit for $2 at Village Hall between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
At the end of September, the Village of Homewood will donate all collected garage sale permit fees to the South Suburban Humane Society. SSHS has two convenient locations in Homewood and Matteson.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to foster a vibrant and close-knit community, we are excited to announce an upcoming event that aims to bring us all together while supporting a local charitable cause," said Event Manager Marla Youngblood. "In the spirit of decluttering and sharing items that might find new life in someone else’s home, Homewood residents are encouraged to have a garage sale and give back to help our local animal shelter."
Homewood residents are able to sign a permission slip which allows the Village of Homewood to promote their garage sale and include their address in a social media post. The permission slip is available to sign when a resident purchases a garage sale permit at Village Hall.
