Kids Found With Realistic Guns At Park, Homewood PD Warns Parents

Two kids with what police determined to be BB guns were found at Pinewood Park Tuesday.

HOMEWOOD, IL — Two children at a park in Homewood Tuesday evening were found carrying realistic-looking guns that police later determined to be BB guns.

The incident happened just before 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Pinewood Park at Hedgerow Lane and Fresno Avenue.

Police declined to give any additional information about the juveniles, but shared a photo of the two guns and a word of caution via social media.

"Thankfully, no one was harmed during the recovery," police wrote.

"If an officer is called to a location and sees someone holding a gun, the officer doesn't have the luxury of taking the time to figure out if the firearm is real. The potential for it becoming a deadly force situation is very real. This is an important conversation for every parent to have, so that everyone goes home safely."
