Lack of Eye Contact Draws Police Attention

A 34-year-old Chicago man was charged with marijuana possession on Oct. 30, according to Homewood police.

A Chicago driver who drew police attention for attempting to dodge a police car faces a marijuana charge.

Dennis Washington, 34, of the 2000 block of 53rd Street, was charged with possessing less than 2.5 grams of marijuana and driving with a revoked license, according to a Homewood police report.

A car full of people failed to make eye contact with police as they passed at about 12:37 a.m. on Oct. 30 on 183rd Street, the report states. A cop followed the car, which turned down several streets in what appeared to be an attempt to lose him.

Police stopped the car to investigate and spoke with the driver, Washington, the report states. While asking for the driver’s license and insurance information, the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the car. Washington could not show proof of a license but did have an insurance card.

Police determined that Washington’s license was revoked and arrested him, the report states. A search turned up a small baggie of a green, leafy substance in the pocket of his jeans. The substance field tested positive for marijuana. Another small baggie of a substance that tested positive for marijuana was found on the floorboard.

Washington is due on Nov. 15 in Markham court.
