Mall Security Officer Shot During Possible Robbery Attempt: Report

CALUMET CITY, IL — A mall security officer was shot during an incident police are calling a possible attempted robbery at a jewelry store, according to reports.

The shooting took place inside River Oaks Mall, which is located in the 90 block of River Oaks Center Drive in Calumet City, WGN reported on Wednesday.

Calumet City Police did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment from Patch on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have not provided any more information about the shooting, which may be tied to the robbery attempt of the store, WGN reported.

It's not the first shooting at the Calumet City mall in recent years. In 2019, two teenagers died after being shot in the parking lot of the mall following a dispute.
