MLK Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Homewood, Flossmoor

Find out how Monday's national holiday will affect city businesses, institutions and services.

The country honors the life and achievements of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with a national holiday in his name Monday, Jan. 15.

Although it's a federal holiday, most retail businesses around Homewood and Flossmoor will be open. But it's always idea to call ahead and check.

Here's a look at how Martin Luther King Jr. Day will affect institutions and services around the villages:

Schools: No classes for Homewood School District 153, Flossmoor School District 161, Bloom Township High School District 206, Rich Township High School District 227 and Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233.

Village Government: Village offices will be closed in Homewood and Flossmoor, including both Village Halls. County, state and federal government offices will be closed, too.

Flossmoor Public Library: The library will be closed.

Homewood Public Library: The library will be open during its regular hours.

Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.

Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.

Trash Pickup: Garbage pickup will continue as normal Monday and throughout the week.
