Union Street Gallery is kicking off 2012 with 2 exhibits, one being a very powerful and emotional exhibit titled “I Shall Be Released” featuring 30 artists from the Midwest. This exhibit was juried by well-known artists and gallery owner Sergio Gomez, Director of 33 Contemporary Gallery, Chicago.

The Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment of the Arts announce the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest, a program that encourages students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance and competition.

All are invited to a free presentation courtesy of Rachel’s Challenge—the Littleton, Colorado based organization created by the family of Rachel Scott, the first student killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. The presentation will focus on Columbine, Rachel's life and the five goals of Rachel's Challenge.
When/where? 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tall Grass Arts Association in Park Forest.
It won't cost you a dime to see this collection of African sculpture from several prominent east coast collectors. Arthur Bourgeois of Governors State University and Thomas Lanham of the Field Museum curated the exhibition.
