Traffic, Dangerous Roads Are Focus Of Flossmoor's Redevelopment
The $2 million project is expected to fix confusing signs and bad intersections that have made roads dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Village board officials are moving ahead with the downtown redevelopment plan that is designed to make roads safer for both drivers and pedestrians. The plan focuses on improving Park Drive, Sterling Avenue, Central Drive and Flossmoor Road within the village.
The board agreed at the end of January to pay Baxter & Woodman Consulting Engineers $160,000 to continue the next phase of the project, which includes surveying the area.
It's the same firm that conducted a traffic study in 2017 after a mother and her daughter were hit and injured by a car when they were crossing the street from a traffic island to a corner by a post office. That study showed that bad sight lines, confusing signs, difficult intersections and other factors make roads dangerous for drivers and pedestrians, the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle reported. Temporary fixes have been made while the village plans a full redevelopment of the area.
